About the hartman & centeno team...
In fourth grade, your child's instruction will be split between Mrs. Hartman and myself. I will be responsible for child's Math instruction, in addition to his/her Science and Social Studies instruction. Mrs. Hartman will be responsible for your child's Language Arts instruction.
In Mrs. Hartman's classroom, students will be working to grow as readers and authors. During Writing Workshop, students will be writing different types of pieces like narrative, informative, and opinion writing. In reading, students will spend time each day learning about a specific skill together in shared reading, then practicing that skill during their independent reading time. Mrs. Hartman has a HUGE classroom library of books to borrow and read! Read aloud is also an important part of the daily schedule when students are with Mrs. Hartman. Another important part of Mrs. Hartman's classroom is the time spent on word study, where students learn about different patterns in words to help them become better spellers and readers!
In Mrs. Centeno's room, students will be learning math concepts through discovery, conceptual, and procedural learning strategies. Each day students will learn about a math concept during a mini lesson and then follow math rotation groups. In these rotations, students will be working in small groups with Mrs. Centeno and 5-6 other students, and practicing their skills through independent work, games, computer programs, and literature. During the science and social studies time, students will learn about topics such as, the human body and our bones, electricity, magnets, as well as map skills, William Penn, and Pennsylvania government!
Your child will be spending time in both classrooms each day. Even though the students have two different teachers, Mrs. Hartman and Mrs. Centeno work together closely to make sure rules, expectations, and consequences are consistent between the two classrooms to assist in a seamless transition into intermediate school!
